The Grand Hall- Canadian Museum of History
Client: Canadian Museum of History, Douglas Cardinal Architect
Services: Exterior architectural lighting
Location: Gatineau, QC
Awards: International Illumination Design Award of Excellence, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, 2007
Description:
This world renowned building is a key tourist and cultural
destination in Canada. The approach taken with the lighting was to emphasize the scale and materiality of the structure. The raking light displays the natural texture of the stone as if it is an outcropping of the site. Various types of technology had to be combined to deliver a consistent aesthetic. These challenges were in part responsible for the project receiving the highest award possible from the Illumination Engineering Society.
